Everyone has a scent that undoes them or a memory they recall because of a scent.

Please write a poem or a short story using either these phrases to start them:

    1. Everyone has a scent that undoes them....

    or

    2. The scent that took me back to my childhood.......

Yes! It is indeed posted in the correct space. And nice little poem WHITMAN:

It's like a hint of sacred, reflecting back to the time of innocense.
Well done AND Thanx for posting!

Check out some of the other exercises too if you like ;)

    Back in the Days

The scent that takes me back to my childhood
shows innocence still inside my soul
My face hidden inside my jacket hood
flaunting my innocence breaking the rules

My nose buried deep inside a book jacket
smelling the paper and ink, heavenly
until the slap of a ruler then sweat
dripping down my face, I glare sullenly

Leave me to my peaceful dreams, the worlds found
in the pages of novels and books,
places I visited, came back around
time and time again, made me feel a crook

    stealing other's lives, flaunt reality
    losing my sense of connectivity.

    Honeysuckle~

    Wonderful poems Whitman and Mysty!
    I like them both.

    ~HONEYSUCKLE~

    Everyone has a scent that
undoes them and the scent that
curls my toes is the white
on the tip of a honeysuckle stem.

    Sweet and succulent the
    fragrance tickles my nose.
If only they made honeysuckle clothes!
I’d bath in waters of its florid springs
    and then jump into my
    frou-frou fresh clothing
and smell like a floret flowering.

    Carried through my curtains
on a summer afternoon or wafting
through an open window driving down
a road is a divine experience
    straight from Heaven’s abode.

I pour its sachet Eau De Parfum
over me like rain and it
    drives my olfactory insane.

    Its herbal elixir in
    shower gels and lotions make
my body scream as the honey-suck
    sensation excites my flesh
    through fields of dreams.

The best scent on this earth
is honeysuckle for sure and I bet if
    they could capsule it,
it would be my illness’ cure.

Not sure what I can contribute. I lost most of my sense of smell a long time ago. Mostly what I remember is burning leaves in the autumn, smell of new mown grass and fresh (phew!) country air in the spring, lol. Of course, there's also the aromatic scent of skunk roadkill after running over it.

I'm not sure what I can come up with. Give me a while to think about it. I was going to say I don't have scent memories but was able to come up with those, lol.

    hugs,
    Gail

Hi Kim, it's not summer here now.
It's raining and chilly here in Pa. too.
All it seems to do anymore is rain.
I can't wait till it gets warmer and this rain stops.
I'm glad you liked my poem, thank you :)

    Memories of Childhood Scents
    ~
The scent that took me back to my childhood
Is the sweet aroma of the white and red roses
That started to blossom at the start of spring
Every-time I reminisce of you, my sweet love
As the cool spring breeze filters their captivating
    Aroma I imagine your aura,
    ~
    I wish you were here
    ~
When-ever I think of you it reminds me
Of the trees budding leaves sways
In the gentle refreshing spring breeze
As I catch the aroma of jasmine in your long beautiful hair
As it floats in the morning breeze
    ~
    I wish you were here
    ~
While I relax in front of the fragrant burning embers
I think of you as I gaze at the grey-blue skies-
With thoughts of your magnificent blue eyes
I am in awe of your majestic beautyKnowing my love for you will never die
    ~
    I wish you were here
    ~
As the sweet aroma of the roses from my childhood
Are immersed in the morning’s brilliance
I think of your gentle radiant smile
    Observing the velvet star-fulled sky
I feel your soul embracing me
And your spirit in my Heart.

    HONEYSUCKLE ~ SONNET

    HONEYSUCKLE ~ SONNET

The scent that takes me back to my childhood
lingers every summer on warm breezes.
When I smell the sweet air it’s understood,
the child in me is free as time freezes.

I remember as a child I’d suck them
and sweet juices of the honeysuckle
ran down my fingers as I held the stem,
much like the juices of a popsicle.

Sweet memories play on the summer breeze
of honeysuckle blossom and a fence,
a little girl with grass stains climbing trees
and chasing lightning bugs in night suspense.

Honeysuckle takes me back to childhood.
I’d choose to be there now if I but could.

    The Love-Made Bread

    Everyone has a scent
    that undoes them
    the very fabric
    of my soul
    is undone…by
    fresh homemade bread …
    from mamma’s kitchen
    with a hint
    of beach in the background
    slowly, so slowly....
    the pieces
    click back in place
    a soul rejuvenated
    Salty air
    adds peace…and
    tranquility seeps through
fresh rain on green, green leaves…
    Limes! Aaah…the smell!
    walking by barefoot through
    damp sand
    raindrops still
    delicately hanging
    on by fingertips
    to gummy curves of bark
    still I eat, the bread
    freshly buttered
    Warm! Aaah, the taste!
    Saying hello
    to Ms. Cordelia
    with her long, long braids
    wrapped around her head
    girth barely fitting
    through her door
    ample breasts to cuddle
    you on a sad day.
    She bakes too....
    what a walk of love
    passing by the houses
    of so many
    homemakers
    Love gatherers
    All bent on making
    sure you are full
    and satisfied with
    the love-made bread.
